The judge sharply criticized what he called a "revolving door" for gun crimes, while the victim's family and defense attorney offered starkly different views of the verdict and Harrison's remorse.

Lifting the ban would open the floodgates on it, study finds (oaklandside.org) — San Leandro sits at the edge of a major debate over whether to lift the long-standing heavy‑truck ban on I‑580, which runs just north of the city and connects near the San Leandro‑Hayward border. A new Caltrans study predicts thousands of trucks could shift from I‑880 to I‑580, raising concerns about air quality, road damage, wildfire evacuation, and safety for nearby schools and neighborhoods.
