History Researchers Want to Scan Your San Leandro Photos

The photograph above of the San Leandro Plaza in the early 20th Century is from the San Leandro Historical Photograph Collection. Do you have photos of San Leandro that might be of interest to future generations and local history researchers? The San Leandro Historical Society and the City of San Leandro History Museum are teaming up to add photos to the San Leandro Historical Photograph and Document Collection. They will be scanning photos at the San Leandro History Museum for three days, and are asking anyone who has a photograph that shows something about local history to bring it in for scanning.
This collection of about 2,500 photographs spans San Leandro History from the earliest decades of the new town to the present, but there are few photos from the 1950s and later in this collection, and some gaps in major San Leandro themes from earlier years.
Do you have photos of San Leandro people, places, events, buildings, schools, or homes that may be of interest to researchers? The Del Monte Cannery, the Caterpillar plant, businesses, the auto race track, the drive-in theater, cherry festivals, Portuguese festivals, and more recent events and structures? Please bring them in for scanning. The original can be returned to you or donated to the museum. Please do not bring in computer prints or photocopies, as the original photo needs to be scanned at a high resolution.
