SAN LEANDRO, CA — The San Leandro Main Library debuted a new interactive outdoor area on the library plaza this summer that allows library patrons to hop, skip, jump, and sing their way into the library. It was designed for youth but we won't tell anyone if you boogie your way to the books.

San Leandro-based Landmark Grafix created and installed concrete decals including a butterfly maze, a cherry-adorned hopscotch, a frog pond, a colorful ABCs spiral, and other elements.

"We are thrilled to enhance our outdoor area with a design that encourages kids to be active and have fun while also developing gross motor skills," said Library Director Brian Simons. "Play is one of the best ways for children to learn the language and literacy skills that help them get ready to read, along with singing, talking, and listening to books. We encourage families to enjoy the outdoor space, then head into the Library where thousands of children’s books and activities await."
