San Leandro Man Charged In Oakland Killing
According to investigators a total of four people fired guns in a melee with one death, and six injuries.
OAKLAND, CA — A San Leandro man has been charged with shooting and killing another man in an exchange of gunfire outside of a Valero gas station in Oakland in January, court records show.
Brian Cruz, 21, is a suspect in the slaying of Mario Navarro, 18, who was shot just after 6 p.m. on Jan. 23 at 5910 MacArthur Blvd. near Mills College at Northeastern University.
A large group of people were at the gas station filming a music video when someone at the intersection of 60th Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard started shooting at the crowd, according to Alameda County Superior Court records. Three people from the crowd returned fire.

Navarro, an Oakland resident, was struck by a bullet and died later at Highland Hospital, court records show. Six other people were injured by gunfire, and all are expected to live, court documents said.
Five other people escaped injury, according to court documents.

Cruz was arrested at 3 a.m. on Feb. 16 in Oakland. He is being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin. He's expected to enter a plea in April at the Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse in Oakland.
