SAN LEANDRO, CA — Miyo Burnett grows milkweed to draw Monarch butterflies into her garden. According to the National Wildlife Federation, "Monarch caterpillars feed exclusively on the leaves of milkweed, the only host plant for this iconic butterfly species. As such, milkweed is critical for the survival of monarchs. Without it, they cannot complete their life cycle and their populations decline."

Miyo picked the seed ball and tucked it in a seed envelope. She will plant the seeds next spring. Here is what the seed ball looked like in October.

Thank you for sharing your photos, Miyo!
