Armored Guard Critically Injured In Shooting Outside Kaiser Hospital
A portion of San Leandro Kaiser Hospital was locked down as police gathered evidence.
SAN LEANDRO, CA — A carrier for the armored guard company GardaWorld was shot in the back outside San Leandro's Kaiser Medical Center shortly before noon on Wednesday, according to the San Leandro Police Department.
The 60-year-old man, who has been with the company for 40 years, was critically injured. His name has not been released.
Police believe the gunman ran to a waiting getaway vehicle and escaped. No arrests have been announced.

"Based on what we know at this time, this was a brazen daytime shooting on the Kaiser Hospital campus. We are grateful no one else was injured during the commission of this crime, but words cannot express how tragic this is," said Lt. Matthew Barajas
As a result of the shooting, portions of the hospital were locked down while police collected evidence.

"This is an active investigation, and detectives were summoned to the scene immediately."
In a message to the community, police emphasized that this was never an "active" shooter situation, as some people speculated on social media.
