4 Ways to Help Prevent Burglary
In light of the recent string of residential burglaries, Patch asked San Marino Detective Aaron Blonde to provide tips to residents on how to keep their homes safe from break-ins.

While as a way to combat crime, residential break-ins are still happening in San Marino as Wednesday’s burglaries and attempted break-in showed.
San Marino Sergeant Aaron Blonde offers the following tips for residents to help prevent break-ins and burglaries:
- Set your alarm if you have one. A resident may go out for a walk thinking he or she doesn’t need to set the alarm, but in that short time a burglary can occur.
- Lock all doors and windows, including the ones upstairs. Burglars can try to enter through second story windows (as was the case in Wednesday’s attempted break-in). An open window can also be an indicator that an alarm is not activated or is not set to detect motion, otherwise wind through the open window would set off the alarm.
- Let neighbors know when you will be gone from your home so they can keep an eye on your house and know when something out of the ordinary happens so they can report it.
- Call police if you see anything out of the ordinary.
