Whiz Kids: Huntington Middle School Good Citizenship Award Recipients

Each week, San Marino Patch highlights Whiz Kids in the community. See who we chose this week and submit your suggestions for local Whiz Kids!

This week’s Whiz Kids are the recipients of the Good Citizenship Award at . In the immortal words of Coach John Wooden, “Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.” It is with this idea in mind that Huntington Middle School’s staff and faculty have pursued to not only prepare their students through academic advancement, but to prepare them with life lessons that foster the development of responsibility, compassion, trustworthiness and fairness. The recipients of the Good Citizenship Award are recognized not only for the service to the school, but also service to the school’s student body through anti-bullying and outreach, just to name a couple of their achievements.

Whiz Kids’ Awesomeness: The United States of America was founded on the guiding principles of service to country--a value that many of the young minds of the coming generations continue to uphold. This past Tuesday a select few of the Huntington Middle School student body came together to celebrate the tradition of service to school. A Good Citizenship Breakfast hosted by school Principal Dave Murray and school Counselor Mrs. Gonzalez honored the students who continue to exemplify the core values of good citizenship: honesty, courtesy, responsibility and service.

The breakfast was more than just an opportunity for the students to come together and celebrate how service to school makes an impact. The breakfast, the awards and the rewards (a Huntington Middle School license plate and two free movie tickets) serve as reinforcements of quality character and the necessity for future generations to actively involve themselves within their communities. More so, the wide diversity of students, student backgrounds and student experiences that comprised the Good Citizenship Award recipients continue to remind us of how important it is to connect with all the different facets of the community. The recipients of the Good Citizenship Award remind me of how proud San Marino should be as a community that we have fostered education of not only mind, but of morality.
