$1.75 Million In Federal Funds Secured For Public Safety Tech And Childcare Center Renovation In San Mateo
The funds will go toward upgrading public safety technology and renovations to a community center providing affordable childcare services.
SAN MATEO, CA — The City of San Mateo has received $1.75 million in federal Community Project Funding that will be split between two local initiatives: upgrading public safety technology and performing necessary renovations to a community center that provides affordable childcare services.
"Receiving this additional federal funding is a major win for our community, supporting two crucial areas: public safety and affordable childcare,” said San Mateo Mayor Adam Loraine. “Investing in up-to-date technology is paramount for our emergency responders, and an investment in preschool is an investment in a vital future. The City is grateful to Congressman Mullin for his continued dedication and advocacy. This increased funding will make a tangible difference."
The funds are earmarked to boost emergency response capabilities and expand affordable childcare options for San Mateo residents.

A majority of the funding, $1.2 million, is allocated for the planning and design phase of renovating the Lakeshore Community Center. The center, which has not undergone major improvements since opening in 1967, aims to use the upgrades to convert its current part-time program into a full-day preschool specifically providing childcare to low-income families.
Another portion, $550,000, will be used to acquire and install key technology for the City's centralized Real Time Information Center. This hub integrates various data sources, including surveillance, license plate readers, traffic and weather information.
