2 Dead After 7-Vehicle Crash In SMC: Police

EAST PALO ALTO, CA — Two people died after a seven-vehicle collision Tuesday morning in East Palo Alto, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash was reported around 8:20 a.m. near Bay Road and University Avenue. A minivan struck six other vehicles before coming to rest on Bay Road, deputies said.

The minivan’s driver suffered serious injuries and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and she later died, officials said.

The San Mateo County Coroner’s Office will identify the two people who died and handle next-of-kin notifications.

At least three other people were injured in the crash. None of those injuries were reported as life-threatening, police said.

The intersection was closed for several hours and reopened around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.
