SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — The Cal Fire San Mateo-Santa Cruz Unit said it has responded to at least 22 fires since Sunday morning.

Firefighters are not able to battle all of the fires due to strained resources, Cal Fire said.

The agency previously said that some fires were sparked by lightning that struck Northern California over the weekend. About 2,500 lightning strikes were reported in the Bay Area and Central Coast. Flashes were forecast into Monday morning.
