Bomb Squad Probes Peninsula Explosion
The explosion shattered windows at two Pacifica homes.
PACIFICA, CA – A large explosion that shattered windows at two Pacifica houses earlier this week was likely caused by a large "commercial grade" firework misfiring, police said Thursday in a news release.
The explosion was reported on the 500 block of Johnson Ave. at about 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
San Mateo County's bomb squad and police who investigated the incident determined that the device probably was designed to launch from the ground and explode high in the air but malfunctioned and fell back to Earth before exploding in the residential neighborhood.
