Catalytic Converter Thefts On The Rise In San Mateo
An unusually high number of catalytic converter thefts have been reported across San Mateo this year, police said.

SAN MATEO, CA — An unusually high number of catalytic converter thefts have been reported across San Mateo this year, police said this week. The thefts have occurred in different parts of the city, usually during the evening.
Thieves steal the converters because they contain recyclable materials that can be easily scrapped for a profit. Increasing numbers of these thefts have been seen around Northern California, typically targeting high-profile cars like SUVs, which are easier for thieves to get under, police said.
Toyotas, especially the Prius, have been targeted in San Mateo recently, according to police.
