County Dems Back Lee In San Mateo City Council Race
Amourence Lee is among three candidates running for two council seats. Incumbent Diane Papan and Lisa Diaz Nash are the others.
SAN MATEO, CA — The San Mateo County Democratic Party has endorsed Amourence Lee in the San Mateo City Council race.
The incumbent councilmember was appointed to her seat in 2019 in the aftermath of Deputy Mayor Maureen Freschet’s resignation. Lee is the first Asian American woman to serve on the council.
Lee is among three candidates running for two council seats.

The other candidates are incumbent Diane Papan and Lisa Diaz Nash.
Lee has served over 15 years as the executive director of a nonprofit and is a startup founder.

In her candidate statement, she cited protecting public health, safety and economic vibrancy and creating affordable housing among her top priorities.
Papan, who previously served as the city’s mayor, in her statement cited ensuring the city is prepared for any health emergency, street repairs and maintaining public parks and infrastructure to be among her top priorities.
She said supporting local businesses and creating affordable housing for teachers, first responders and young families is needed to maintain San Mateo’s character.
Nash serves as the president of San Mateo’s Library Board and director on Rotary Haciendas Board for low-income senior housing.
In her statement cited public safety, revitalizing the economy and expanding affordable housing among her top priorities.
