Ferrari, Van Involved In Chain Reaction Crash On San Mateo Bridge

UPDATE: Traffic was at an extra-slow crawl during Friday's rush hour as a result of the major wreck.

SAN MATEO, CA — All eastbound lanes of the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge were briefly blocked Friday afternoon because of a multi-vehicle collision, according to the California Highway Patrol. The CHP says four vehicles crashed on the bridge, also known as SR-92, prompting major delays.

The crash was first reported at 2:53 p.m. and all lanes were not back open until 5:05 p.m.

"It appears that a white van rear ended a Ferrari, the Ferrari then collided with a Nissan sedan, the Nissan then collided with another van which left the scene," the Redwood City CHP tweeted following the collision.

Officials said that the wreckage ended up blocking all the lanes, with the van in the two left-most lanes, and the Ferrari in the slow lane and right shoulder.

"The driver of the Ferrari was transported with minor injuries," officials said. "The Ferrari was leaking fuel so it was not safe to move right away, therefore delaying opening the lanes."
