Daly City Man Arraigned for Attempted Murder in SSF Shooting

Police believe the intended targets were two San Bruno gang members. A San Mateo man was hurt in the shooting.

A Daly City man pleaded not guilty Wednesday to attempted murder and other charges in connection with an Aug. 6 shooting in South San Francisco that injured one person, according to prosecutors.

Jose Antonio Nava, 21, entered a not guilty plea in San Mateo County Superior Court this afternoon and was assigned a public defender, according to District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.

Nava was arrested after shots were fired at a vehicle in the area of Chestnut and Grand avenues in South San Francisco around 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 6, according to South San Francisco police.

PREVIOUSLY:

A 29-year-old San Mateo man who was a passenger in the car suffered a gunshot wound to his head. Police said the other two men in the car were suspected gang members from San Bruno and probably the intended targets of the shooter.

Nava remains in custody on $3 million bail and will return to court on Aug. 26 to set a date for a preliminary hearing.
