Drugs, Gun Found On Couple Arrested During SMC Traffic Stop: Police

Police said they found a loaded "ghost gun" with an illegal barrel in a diaper bag.

SAN MATEO, CA — A traffic stop led to the arrest of a San Mateo couple late Friday night after officers found drugs, a bullet and a loaded "ghost gun" inside their car, police said.

At around 11 p.m. on Friday, San Mateo Police Department officers said they saw an SUV driving erratically, swerving over lane lines on southbound US 101 near the Hillsdale Boulevard exit.

Officers said they pulled the car over in the area of Brittan Avenue and Industrial Road in San Carlos.

Inside the car, officers said they found additional drugs and a bullet in a small bag in the backseat.

Police said they also found a loaded, unserialized and unregistered firearm — commonly known as a "ghost gun" — in a diaper bag accessible to Barajas. The gun also had a threaded barrel, which classifies it as an illegal assault weapon under state law, police said.

The two small children were released to family members at the scene, police said. Both Aguilar and Barajas were arrested and booked into the San Mateo County Jail, police said.

Laura Aguilar was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance while armed with a loaded firearm, possession of a firearm without a serial number, and possession of an "assault weapon" due to a threaded barrel.

Hector Gonzalez Barajas was charged with possession of a firearm without a serial number, carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, carrying a loaded firearm not registered as the owner, and possession of an "assault weapon" also due to a threaded barrel.
