SAN MATEO, CA — Police will hold a DUI checkpoint Friday in San Mateo and have announced the time and location, police said.
The San Mateo Police Department has planned a DUI checkpoint for 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. in the area of Barneson Avenue and Alameda De Las Pulgas.
“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk, as well as themselves,” Traffic Sergeant Nick Ryan said. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety.”

Police said they determine checkpoint locations based on data that shows incidents of impaired driving-related crashes.
Police are reminding the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol but also some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. Cannabis may be legal to use in California but it is still illegal to drive under the influence, police said.
