The San Francisco Chamber Orchestra's innovative, admission-free Family Concert series presents its third and final program of the 2011-12 season. These 45-minute programs, designed for young listeners as well as adults learning about classical music, are the cornerstone of the SFCO's educational programming and have been greeted with capacity crowds and enthusiastic responses from our
audiences all season.
Meet the Composers presents an informative and entertaining program. Travel back in time with us to meet a few of classical music’s greatest composers: grumpy Johnny Bach and his twenty children, deaf Ludwig B. who can only hear music inside his head, and present-day Gabi Frank who will show us how different things are today for a modern composer. Our program will include noted comedian and actor Mark Wessels as our Bach & Beethoven impersonator, and two amazing young violin soloists, both in the sixth grade: Joseph Wong and Kevin Kim who are members of the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra, an award-winning youth orchestra.
The program will include Bach's Double Violin Concerto in D minor performed by our youthful soloists, the Scherzo movement from Beethoven's string quartet in C minor, Op. 18 No. 4, and the final movement (Coqueteos) of Gabriela Lena Frank's colorful string quartet Leyendas: An Andean Walkabout.
