Ex-San Mateo Cop Who Stole From Little League Gets Jail Time

Jeffrey Gueco Aspillera, 47, was sentenced to six months in jail and three years probation.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — A former San Mateo police convicted of embezzling more than $100,000 from the Foster City Little League was sentenced to six months in jail and three years probation, The San Mateo Daily Journal reports.

Jeffrey Gueco Aspillera, 47, of Hayward, had volunteered as the league's treasurer, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said he stole money over a three-year period from 2016 to 2019, using it on personal purchases including an Apple Watch, snorkel gear and a television.

Aspillera worked at the San Mateo Police Department from 2010 to 2015, The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Aspillera had been given a credit card to pay all league-related expenses. He came under suspicion last September when the league's board elected a new treasurer and Aspillera refused to provide her with any financial records, so she went to a bank and discovered the missing funds, prosecutors said.
