Man Arrested For Striking Victim In The Face With Metal Rod In SMC: Police

Police said when they arrived they found a man with an injury to their face.

SAN MATEO, CA — A Redwood City man was arrested early Friday morning after striking a victim in the face with a metal rod, police said.

At around 12:26 a.m. on Friday, San Mateo police officers said they responded to a report of an assault in the 1300 block of Saratoga Drive. Officers said they found the suspect, identified as 26-year-old Devan King Sr., and an adult victim at the scene.

The victim, who had a visible facial injury, told officers that King Sr. approached them just before the police arrived and, without any apparent reason, hit them once in the face with a collapsible metal rod, police said. Witnesses at the scene confirmed the victim's account, police said.

King Sr. was taken into custody and transported to the San Mateo County Jail, where he was booked on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon.
