Mega Millions Fever Hits Foster City

Foster City’s has a loyal base of customers who say the grocery chain features fresh produce and butcher-cut meat at prices you just can’t find anywhere else.

But these days, it’s not just the regulars who are flocking to the Foster City Boulevard market.

With dreams of never having to work another day in their lives – if they don’t want to, that is – Peninsula residents are snapping up tickets at a store that they believe has the good Mojo.

About five weeks ago, the store sold a worth over $500,000 to a man lottery officials identified as “Arnel C.”

But that’s chump change compared to the record Mega Millions payout already estimated at $500 million that’s up for grabs in Friday’s drawing.

Foot traffic at the Foster City store was up a few ticks Wednesday morning and expected to pick up as Friday draws near with customers already buzzing about the huge payout, store manager Albert Lam told Patch.

The Mega Millions jackpot reached into record territory after nobody won Tuesday night’s drawing. The estimated prize already far surpasses the $390 million record set in March, 2007, according to the Los Angeles Times.

“People think we’re the lucky place” to buy tickets, Lam said. “We hope to bring more luck to our customers.”
