Older Woman Wakes Up To Intruder In Peninsula Home Burglary: Police

The woman awoke to find a man rifling through her bedroom closet, police said.

PALO ALTO, CA — Officers are investigating a home burglary that occurred Friday night in Palo Alto, during which an older resident was awoken by and briefly confronted the intruder, police said.

At approximately 10:20 p.m. on Friday, the Palo Alto police received a call of a burglary in progress on the 200 block of Creekside Drive. A woman in her 80s, who was sleeping in her bedroom, was awakened by a noise and saw an unfamiliar person looking into her closet, police said. The victim questioned the suspect, who then immediately fled the bedroom and the home, police said.

Officers said they were unable to locate the suspect.

The investigation revealed that the unknown suspect had entered the home through an unlocked rear sliding glass door, police said. The victim described the burglar as a White man, around 6 feet tall, wearing all black clothing and a black beanie.

Police later spoke to another resident of the home, who was not present during the incident and they reported that around $5,000 worth of purses and jewelry were missing.

The suspect remains unknown and at large.

Detectives are continuing to actively investigate this incident.
