Peninsula Police Pursuit Leads To Meth Bust

Suspect was found to be in possession of approximately 2 ½ pounds of methamphetamine for sale, police said.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — A man who tried to evade a traffic stop in Redwood City late Tuesday night was arrested on suspicion on drugs and weapons charges, police said.

Police tried to pull over a motorcyclist for a vehicle code violation on the area of Maple Street and Blomquist Street at around 11:30 p.m.

A man later identified Jose Juan Chavez failed to yield and proceeded to the dead end of Maple Street, where he fell off the bike while attempting to ride along a footpath, police said.

Police said they saw the 37-year-old suspect discarding a loaded firearm while trying to flee.

During a search Chavez was found to be in possession of approximately 2 ½ pounds of methamphetamine for sale, police said.

Chavez was arrested and booked into the San Mateo County Jail on several felony and misdemeanor charges, including being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance while armed, possession of a controlled substance for sale, and evading a peace officer.
