San Mateo, Belmont Residential Burglaries Probed

Police said burglars targeted west side homes in San Mateo. They believe the burglars hit homes in Belmont too.

SAN MATEO, CA – Police are investigating a series of residential burglaries in San Mateo and Belmont on Friday night, authorities said.

The burglars stole valuables from two homes on the 4000 blocks of Wooster Drive and Highway Drive at around 9:15 p.m. after accessing the residences through their backyards, the San Mateo Police Department said in a news release Monday.

The burglars fled south before officers responding to the sounding alarms and security cameras arrived, police said.

Police believe the burglars hit homes in Belmont around the same time period.

The San Mateo Police Department offers the following home security tips:

· Keep all doors, windows, and all other entry points locked.
· Lock your backyard side gates.
· Cut back any landscape. Keep tree canopies over six feet and shrubbery under two feet.
· Consider planting defensive shrubbery near access points to your home.
· Invest in a 4k HD (or better) video security system to monitor your home and the street.
· Install an alarm system and place a sign in your front yard.
· Consider applying a security film to windows around your home.
· A dog’s bark is also a great deterrent.
