SAN MATEO, CA — The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office is warning residents to be on the lookout and avoid falling victim to scammers or potential thieves. This week, officials flagged a string of recent reports from community members who said people claiming to be PG&E employees attempted to access their property.

The sheriff's office noted a few simple ways people can determine if someone is a legitimate PG&E worker including having an official company ID, wearing a full uniform rather than only a utility vest, and having an official vehicle on site. Officials said legitimate PG&E work also includes calling customers ahead of time to notify them when possible.

Residents who have questions about if someone is a legitimate employee can contact PG&E's regional supervisor at 925-549-9264.
