'Pink Ribbon' CA License Plates Now Available Online

A NorCal breast cancer survivor group made the "pink plate" idea a DMV reality. A portion of fees go to "Every Woman Counts."

SACRAMENTO, CA – California's newly released "Pink Ribbon" license plates, an inspiration launched by a Northern California breast cancer survivor group, now can be ordered online from the Department of Motor Vehicles, and a portion of the fees will go to the state's "Every Woman Counts" program.

“The Pink Ribbon license plate will increase breast cancer awareness and raise money to provide critical services to women," DMV director Jean Shiomoto said. "Early detection saves lives.”

Every Woman Counts, a California Department of Health Care Services program, provides mammograms, breast cancer diagnostic services, education and other services to the state's underserved women.

The Pink Ribbon license plate was the idea of the “Survivor Sisters,” a group of breast cancer survivors from Contra Costa County, who wanted to promote early detection and help women and families survive breast cancer. The group collaborated with Every Woman Counts to create the license plate, and more than 7,500 advance orders for the Pink Ribbon license plate were received to make the plate a reality. “The enthusiasm for California’s Pink Plate shows how important breast cancer awareness is to Californians,” said Department of Health Care Services Director Jennifer Kent. “The Pink Plate will help fight cancer across California by increasing awareness and supporting early detection efforts, screening, diagnostic services, and treatment for California women.”
