Rash Of Car Burglaries Under Investigation In San Mateo
Thieves targeted "many" locked and unlocked cars in San Mateo on Sunday night — the latest in a recent uptick in such crimes, police said.

SAN MATEO, CA — Police are investigating a string of auto burglaries that took place Sunday night after thieves broke into "many" locked and unlocked cars on the west side of San Mateo, the San Mateo Police Department said.
The burglaries occurred near Laurelwood Shopping Center along W Hillsdale Boulevard. Police believe burglars smashed some cars' windows, while other cars may have been left unlocked, and stole items including spare change, credit cards and sunglasses. Police didn't specify how many thefts took place, but said "many" cars had been burglarized.
San Mateo has seen an uptick in property crimes, police said, urging residents to take safety precautions including locking car doors and not leaving personal items inside cars.
