Prep Notes: Serra’s Redwood Stands on Brink of Second Straight 1,000-Yard Season
Padres' big-play back has rushed for 170 yards or more in four his last five games.
Serra running back Eric Redwood is poised to eclipse the 1,000-yard plateau for a second straight year.
Redwood has rushed for 931 yards and 15 touchdowns on 120 carries. The senior can go over 1,000 yards on Friday when the Padres play West Catholic Athletic League rival Valley Christian.
Serra (6-1, 3-1) plays at Valley Christian (3-4, 1-3) at 7 p.m.

Redwood rushed for 1,344 yards and 12 touchdowns as part of one of the Central Coast Section’s most feared 1-2 backfield combinations along with standout Erich Wilson.
Wilson, who now plays at Washington, rushed for 2,106 yards and 33 touchdowns last year.

Redwood has rushed for 170 yards or more in four his last five games.
His propensity for making big plays is shown in this YouTube clip of his 75-yard scoring run in a 35-34 WCAL loss to Bellarmine on Oct. 13.
Sophomore standout:
San Mateo sophomore Line Latu has helped key an impressive Bearcats turnaround.
After an 0-3 start, the Bearcats have won their last four games and are unbeaten through their first three Peninsula Athletic League Lake games.
The two-way standout’s emergence has been a key factor in the team’s progression.
He’s rushed for 686 yards and nine touchdowns (he leads the team in both categories). Latu rushed for 235 yards and three touchdowns in a 34-21 league win against Hillsdale on Oct. 12.
He also plays defensive back and is the team’s fourth leading tackler with 36.
San Mateo (4-3, 3-0) will plays Capuchino (3-4, 2-0) on Friday (at 7 p.m., at Capuchino) in a battle between the league’s only two unbeaten teams.
Respect for Aragon:
After winning four nonleague games to start the season, Aragon has lost two of its first three league games.
Aragon, however, have the respect of longtime Terra Nova coach Bill Gray.
The Dons (5-2, 1-2 PAL Bay) play host to Terra Nova (4-3, 3-0) on Friday in a 3 p.m. league game.
Aragon is a well-coached team with impressive team speed and above average size that Gray says has his team concerned.
He compared the Dons of this season to Aragon teams during the program’s perennially dominant era of the late 1990s into the early 2000s.
“Aragon this year reminds me of Aragon of old,” Gray said. “Big, fast, very well coached and quite a challenge.
“They were essentially unbeatable.”
