Public Invited To Watch SMC's New Voting System Being Tested
San Mateo County is inviting the public to watch its new voting software being tested ahead of the March 3 presidential primary.
SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — A new voting system will be set up throughout San Mateo County in time for the March 3 presidential primary, and officials are inviting the public to watch the new machines being tested out before they're ready to tally votes.
The county manually tests its voting system software before every election by casting sample ballots and checking whether they're counted accurately, the county said in a press release.
The new system, Dominion Democracy Suite, will be tested starting 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23 at the county Registration & Elections Division, 40 Tower Road in San Mateo.

The first phase of the process will test the system's electronic tablet ballots, while the second phase will test traditional paper-ballot voting.
Once the testing is done, a total of 450 ballot marking devices will be sent to 42 vote centers around the county for the March 3 primary, the county said.
