Refracted Rays Produce Spectacular Colors: Photo Of The Week

A large magenta halo surrounds the sun as it punches through a backdrop of thick gray smoke.

SAN MATEO, CA — The refracted sun’s rays amid massive wildfires produced some spectacular colors over the Peninsula skies.

Patch reader Mary Salim captured these stunning photos showing a large magenta halo surrounding sun against a gray backdrop of smoke. Pink, orange and yellow colors are seen too as the sun punches through the smoky skies.
