San Mateo Auto Theft ‘Hot Spot’ Patrol Leads To Arrest

Auto theft suspect also found to be in possession of methamphetamine, police said.

SAN MATEO, CA — A patrol of a San Mateo auto theft “hot spot” early Saturday morning resulted the arrest of a man suspected of possessing a stolen vehicle, police said.

Police noticed an occupied vehicle running at a Best Western Coyote Point parking lot at 480 N Bayshore Blvd. while on patrol at around 3 a.m. A DMV check that revealed the vehicle was reported stolen out of Atherton on July 20, the San Mateo Police Department said in a news release.

Police arrested the solo occupant of the vehicle, who they said was also in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

The vehicle was returned to its owner, police said.

In compliance with State and County COVID-19 regulations, the suspect was issued a felony citation and released from the San Mateo Police Department.
