San Mateo City Council Backs BLM Mural Proposal: Report
The council also passed a resolution in support of Black Lives Matter on Monday.
SAN MATEO, CA — The San Mateo City Council on Monday backed the idea of creating a permanent Black Lives Matter mural, The San Mateo Daily Journal reports.
The council sent the proposal to the city’s Art Commission, which will develop plans to design and select a location for the mural according to the report.
The idea for a Black Lives Matter mural in a high-traffic area of the city was proposed by Joshua Wright, a San Mateo resident who recommended the project be created by local Black artists, the report said.

Black leaders, Police Chief Ed Barberini and San Mateo Police Officers’ Association President Rory McMilton helped craft the resolution, the report said.
“This is a resolution that is declaring that Black lives matter, it is a statement of our values. It is not an endorsement of a movement or a political organization,” said Councilwoman Amourence Lee, who introduced the resolution according to the report.
