Congresswoman Jackie Speier will honor eleven first-generation immigrants with an Immigrant Recognition Award on Friday, October 20.

From the Office of Congresswoman Jackie Speier: Congresswoman Jackie Speier (CA-14) will honor eleven first-generation immigrants with an Immigrant Recognition Award on Friday, October 20, 2017 at 5 p.m. at the San Mateo Public Library. Each awardee will be presented with a Congressional Certificate enumerating their contributions to the American way of life.
“Immigrants are what makes our county great. They contribute to the richness and diversity of our culture and economy,” Rep. Speier said. “During this time of divisiveness, it’s more important than ever that we stand with the new arrivals to the United States. These eleven awardees from different countries and different fields have enriched our communities through their educational, medical, social, financial, culinary and public services. I am especially proud to recognize them for their outstanding contributions in one of the most immigrant rich counties in the country. San Mateo ranks fourth among counties in California and eighth across the nation in the concentration of foreign-born residents.”
