San Mateo County Reports 9 New Coronavirus-Related Deaths

The latest report brings the countywide coronavirus death toll to 65.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — San Mateo County Health reported nine additional coronavirus-related fatalities Tuesday.

The most recent report brings the county’s COVID-19 death toll to 65.

The county reported 33 additional COVID-19 cases, bringing the countywide total to 1,497

There are currently 58 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in San Mateo County, of which 44 are being treated in intensive care units.

Elsewhere in the Bay Area, Contra Costa County health officials are seeking volunteers to be "contact tracers" to research the connections between people who have tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus and others who may have potentially been infected.

Hiring in the Bay Area is down 25 percent since February when concerns over the coronavirus started ramping up in the region, according to Joint Venture Silicon Valley and data from LinkedIn.

The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors punted Tuesday on a potential extension of the county's temporary moratorium on evictions for residents affected by the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. The board is now expected to discuss the moratorium extension during its May 26 special meeting, scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

There have been 69,716 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 2,802 coronavirus-related deaths in California as of Tuesday afternoon according to data from John Hopkins University.

The United States has confirmed 1,367,927 COVID-19 cases and 82,246 coronavirus-related fatalities as of Tuesday afternoon.
