San Mateo Driver High On Marijuana Injures Pedestrian, Police Say

SAN MATEO, CA — An 18-year-old San Mateo man was arrested on suspicion of DUI after he struck and critically injured a pedestrian while driving high on marijuana, according to the San Mateo Police Department.

Witnesses called police Sunday and said they saw multiple young people running from a car after it hit a pedestrian and collided with parked cars on North Humboldt Street, police said. The suspect car was debilitated after the crash.

Nathan Farris, 18, of San Mateo, was arrested at 6:45 p.m. Sunday in front of his home on suspicion of marijuana DUI, hit and run causing serious injury, and other charges.

The pedestrian was airlifted to a trauma center and is expected to survive despite suffering serious injuries, police said.
