Electric Vehicle Expo will take place in San Mateo on Saturday, September 9.

From the City of San Mateo: The City of San Mateo, in partnership with Plug In America, is hosting the third Electric Vehicle (EV) Expo to take place in San Mateo on Saturday, September 9 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The event taking place on the Franklin Templeton Campus at Saratoga Drive and Franklin Parkway features the latest models of electric cars as well as test drives and other EV related vendors.

This event entices car enthusiasts as well as those wanting to lead a more sustainable lifestyle by demonstrating the latest EV makes and models from leading car companies such as: Mercedes, BMW, Ford, Tesla, Fiat, Nissan, and Volkswagen. Other types of electric vehicles including electric bikes from Social Bicycles, a variety of e-scooters, EV chargers, and the electric motorcycle used by the San Mateo Police Department will also be on display. Those interested in seeing how EV’s handle the road will have an opportunity to ride in or test-drive many of the latest models.

"For people considering making the switch from carbon-polluting fossil fuel to a more sustainable electric car (or bike or scooter), the Electric Vehicle Expo is a great place to test out all the climate-friendly choices,” said Christine Ferry, City of San Mateo’s Sustainability Analyst.

San Mateo’s event is one of more than 100 across the country celebrating the sixth annual National Drive Electric Week. The event is intended to highlight the fun, clean-air benefits and cost-savings of electric vehicles while stressing the importance of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

“Electric cars are an excellent way to reduce air pollution and oil-dependence. Here is an opportunity for anybody to learn about the currently available cars in a fun and friendly environment,” said Dave Atherton, the National Drive Electric Week City Captain for San Mateo.

In San Mateo, fifty-eight percent of the greenhouse gasses emitted are from on-road transportation. The City’s Climate Action Plan has identified several measures to achieve greenhouse gas reductions, including increasing the adoption of electric vehicles within the community. This event builds awareness and demonstrates the actions residents can take to reduce carbon emissions.

“It’s not realistic to expect everyone to get out of their cars,” says Christine Ferry, “however, it is important to encourage people to switch to low-emission vehicles. There are so many exciting models on the market and we want to raise awareness of the options.”
