San Mateo Invites You To Join City's Next 'Taste And Talk Forum'

Join the discussion as the City of San Mateo holds the second Taste and Talk Forum for the Downtown Specific Plan Update.

SAN MATEO, CA – The San Mateo community is invited to participate in the second Taste and Talk Forum on April 24th. As part of a community outreach and planning effort focused on the future of downtown, the city is hosting a Taste and Talk Forum that will spark a discussion about the factors that are likely to affect communities in coming years. Join us at Draper University’s Hero City located at 55 East Third Avenue on Monday, April 24th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Panelists for the second Taste and Talk Forum include Don Weden, retired Principal Planner from the County of Santa Clara, and Bill Lee a Senior Partner with Land Econ Group (LEG). Their discussion will focus on the shifting demographic, economic, and environmental trends occurring locally and throughout the region. Their insight will help to inform community dialogues about maintaining our local quality of life while balancing and planning for change over time.

“The importance of thinking about the future and then influencing it, rather than just reacting to it is key,” stated Don Weden. "If we want our communities and our lives to be better, then we need to be proactive by being the ones to help make it happen.”

The city of San Mateo will host additional opportunities for community involvement. Upcoming forums and workshops are designed to gather suggestions and create conversations that will help to refine the community’s vision for Downtown San Mateo and guide its future.

“A healthy, sustainable, and thriving downtown is important for San Mateo. How we get there and the community conversations that need to happen is what the Downtown Plan update process is about,” says Julia Klein, Project Manager. “Community planning, especially planning for the future, requires communities to consider multiple factors and have frank conversations about community needs and wants. We encourage you to join the discussion.”
