San Mateo Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Stabbing Victim During Argument
An argument in San Mateo turned violent this week when a man was stabbed during a confrontation.
SAN MATEO, CA — A man was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries on Wednesday and another was arrested abruptly after an altercation in San Mateo, police said.
Just after 11 a.m., a police officer was patrolling the area of Poplar Avenue and South Amphlett Boulevard in response to parking complaints. The officer overheard a loud argument and saw two men standing on the sidewalk, according to the San Mateo Police Department.
Police said the verbal argument quickly escalated and the suspect, 26-year-old Cristian Gomez, stabbed the other man with a knife he had been holding.

The officer told Gomez to drop the knife and he was "safely detained" in handcuffs.
As additional units arrived, medical aid was given to the victim and he was later taken to a hospital.

Gomez, a San Mateo resident, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and booked into the San Mateo County Jail.
"As we continue this investigation, we are searching for surveillance footage of the incident," police wrote in a Thursday statement.
