San Mateo Officer Involved Shooting Turns Fatal

Breaking: A man got out of his car on Highway 101 and fired at police.

SAN MATEO, CA — The California Highway Patrol is reporting all lanes of northbound U.S. Highway 101 are open Saturday morning following an officer-involved shooting Friday in San Mateo. The roadway was reopened around midnight, according to the CHP. Officers shot an armed suspect on the highway near state Highway 92.

The suspect reportedly got out of a vehicle on the highway's northbound lanes and began shooting. Three CHP officers responded to the scene just after 5:30 p.m. All three of the officers fired their weapons, killing the man, according to the CHP. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No officers were injured in the shooting. The incident caused the closure of the northbound lanes of the
highway for more than six hours.
