San Mateo Police Ask For Help In Finding Carjacking Suspect

Police are asking for help finding a man who carjacked a woman while fleeing from officers in San Mateo Thursday.

SAN MATEO, CA — Police are asking for help finding a man who carjacked a woman while fleeing from officers in San Mateo Thursday.

The case began when Belmont police pursued a vehicle that failed to yield when traveling northbound on Highway 101, according to police. The driver left the vehicle near State Route 92 and Hillsdale Boulevard and ran toward Fiesta Meadows Park, police said.

The suspect entered a vehicle, held a knife to the driver's stomach and forced her to drive to the San Mateo Medical Center, according to police.
The suspect fled the medical center. Following up on a report of a man who matched the suspect's description, San Mateo police went to Fernwood Avenue and Hillsdale Boulevard, where the man was reported to have jumped into the creek. The suspect fled deeper into the creek and police continued to pursue him.

Three schools in the area were placed on a "secure campus" status as police searched for the suspect.
