San Mateo Police Captain To Serve As Menlo Park's Police Chief

SAN MATEO, CA — David Norris, a captain at the San Mateo Police Department, was named the next police chief of Menlo Park.

In a news release on Tuesday, Menlo Park City Manager Starla Jerome-Robinson praised Norris as a “well-respected and experienced law enforcement executive.”

Norris has served in the San Mateo Police Department since 1993, and has had stints as the acting or interim police chief in the past two years. According to the news release, Norris helped form the department’s first community and media relations unit and has developed its community engagement strategy.

“I am proud to work in a County where police departments prioritize our connection with our community and our ability to work collaboratively with our communities and each other,” Norris said in a statement. “It was incredibly important to me to take on a responsibility like police chief locally. I’m excited to get to know the people who live, work and play here in Menlo Park and the dedicated professionals who serve this community.”

Norris’ first day is expected to be Mar. 22.
