San Mateo Police Investigate A Series Of Attempted Burglaries

Authorities are investigating a series of attempted residential and car burglaries that occurred Friday morning in San Mateo.

SAN MATEO, CA — Police in San Mateo are investigating a series of attempted residential and car burglaries that occurred Friday morning.

Would-be attempted burglars tried to burglarize four residences and vehicles in the 400 block of Sylvan Avenue, according to the San Mateo Police Department.

In one of the incidents, police said a resident woke up to the sound of his fence gate opening and closing. The resident checked the open fence but did not locate a suspect.

Video surveillance showed the suspect had moved to an adjacent residence but froze when the first resident turned on a light to check the fence, according to police.

Once the resident turned off the light, the suspect tried to enter a second residence.
