San Mateo Teen Seeks Bone Marrow Donor

Bryce Vaysberg, 13, diagnosed with disease that inhibits blood cell production.

A bone marrow drive has kicked off this morning for Bryce Vaysberg, a 13-year-old San Mateo boy recently diagnosed with a rare condition.

“Anyone between the ages of 18 and 60 can stop by and get tested with this simple, non-invasive – but potentially life-saving test,” a press release reads. “A quick swab of the inside of the cheek gives the necessary tissue typing information needed to determine a match and a National Marrow Donor Program representative will be on hand to assist.”

Bryce suffers from aplastic anemia, a rare condition that causes bone marrow to stop producing red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets.
