Shotgun Seized Following Noise Complaint In San Mateo: Police

Officers found a 12-gauge shotgun and 9mm handgun ammunition, police said.

SAN MATEO, CA — A routine noise complaint escalated into a weapons arrest Sunday in San Mateo.

San Mateo Police Department officers said they were called to the area of Royal Avenue and S. Norfolk Street after receiving a report of loud music. Upon arrival, officers said they found someone who appeared to be drinking inside a parked vehicle.

Police said they searched their car and found an unloaded 12-gauge shotgun. Police said they also found 9mm ammunition in a backpack nearby. The suspect in the car was arrested on charges of carrying a concealed weapon, police said.

Authorities also located a second person nearby who is believed to be the owner of the backpack, though no weapon was found on him, police said. All firearm-related materials were seized by the officers.

"If you see something, say something," police said. "A basic noise complaint turned into a weapons arrest, so you never know how you may be helping to fight crime."
