Stalking Suspect With Trove Of Illegal Guns Arrested At LAX: Police

Allegations of stalking led to an arrest at the Los Angeles International Airport Thursday.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A stalking tip lead to the weapons arrest of a Bay Area man Thursday at the Los Angeles International Airport, according to authorities.

The Los Angeles Police Department Airport Division arrested San Mateo resident Leqiang Wang, 28, at 11 p.m. Thursday on suspicion of possession of illegal firearms among other charges.

The arrest came after police in San Mateo searched the man’s home in response to a stalking tip and discovered illegal firearms, according to the San Mateo Police Department.

At 11:30 on March 7, a San Mateo resident reported that a suspicious person had possibly followed her from San Francisco and took photos of her car, according to SMPD Officer Andrew Peek.

Upon further investigation, investigators learned the suspect had returned to the woman’s neighborhood several times after the initial report, police announced in a written statement.

While serving search warrants for Wang’s San Mateo residence, police found multiple illegal firearms, which included automatic rifles, silencers, unserialized firearms and firearm manufacturing items such as a 3D printer, Peek said.

Police issued an arrest warrant for Wang, and on April 3 LAPD Airport Division located and arrested him at the LA International Airport.

LAPD booked Wang into the county jail where he is waiting to be transported to San Mateo County.

The investigation is ongoing.
