Stolen Mail, Drugs Found On Man Arrested In SMC: Police
Officers nabbed a mail thief from out of town who also had burglary tools on him, police said
SAN MATEO, CA — What started as a report about a suspicious person ended with the arrest of a Campbell man Wednesday in San Mateo after officers found a large amount of stolen mail, drugs and tools for breaking and entering in his car, police said.
At around 8:17 a.m. on Wednesday, San Mateo Police officers said they went to the 800 block of Highland Avenue following up on a call about a suspicious situation, possibly involving mail theft.
When they arrived, a witness pointed out a car matching the description of the suspicious person driving away.

Officers pulled over the car and identified the driver as 46-year-old Shomari Evans, from Campbell. A check of police records showed Evans had an active, outstanding felony arrest warrant, police said.
After arresting Evans on the warrant, officers said they searched his car. Police said they discovered a significant amount of mail belonging to many different people, a controlled substance, drug use items and tools commonly used for picking locks.

Evans was booked into the San Mateo County Jail for first-degree burglary, petty theft, possession of a controlled substance, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools and the existing felony warrant.
