Suspect Allegedly Steals Booze, Drags Officer With Car

Recognize her? Police say she was driving a maroon, four-door Honda Accord.

SAN MATEO, CA – San Mateo police are asking for help identifying a woman who on Thursday allegedly stole alcohol from a grocery store and drove away, dragging an officer about 35 feet, police said today.

As an officer was doing a routine check at around midnight at the Woodlake Shopping Center, he saw a Safeway employee running out of the store pointing at a person who was loading alcohol into her vehicle.

The officer tried to stop the suspect at the store at 860 N. Delaware St. As he grabbed her and told her to turn off the vehicle, she allegedly drove away, police said.

The officer was allegedly dragged about 35 feet before he let go and fell to the ground. He suffered minor injuries and went back to work at the scene a little while later.

The suspect allegedly drove away south on South Delaware Street and is still at large, according to police.

Police are describing her as a black woman, about 40 years old with a tattoo on her lower back. She is between 5 feet 6 and 5 feet 8 inches tall and 150 to 160 pounds, according to police.

She was driving a 1998 to 2002 maroon 4-door Honda Accord. Police allege the suspect told the officer a receipt was in the trunk.
