Nine Silicon Valley Titans Topped Forbes' 2020 Billionaire List

SILICON VALLEY, CA — The International Monetary Fund released a report Tuesday titled “The Great Lockdown” warning that fallout from the new coronavirus crisis is likely to trigger the deepest recession since the Great Depression.

While most of the world is gripped by fear in these uncertain times and millions have lost their jobs amid the COVID-19 crisis, Forbes published a list last week of 2,095 people who won’t sweat their stimulus checks arriving a day or two late.

Silicon Valley is well represented on Forbes’ 34th annual list of the world's richest billionaires.

The 2020 Forbes Billionaires List features two Silicon Valley residents in the top 10, and four in the top 14. Nine of world’s 139 wealthiest call Silicon Valley their home.

Oracle’s Larry Ellison, who lives in Woodside, ranks fifth on the list with a net worth of $59 billion, and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg (Palo Alto) came in seventh with $54.7 billion to his name.

Amazon’s Jeff Bezos topped the list with a net worth of $113 billion and Microsoft’s Bill Gates was second with $98 billion.

Forbes ranked the world's wealthiest's net worths as of March 18. The magazine counted 58 fewer billionaires than it did a year ago, and 226 fewer than just 12 days earlier, when the stock market started to tank.
