Woman In Distress Rescued From Peninsula Lagoon

Crisis negotiators entered the lagoon and brought the woman to safety shortly before 8 p.m.

SAN MATEO, CA — A woman who was experiencing a mental health crisis was rescued from a Peninsula waterway Wednesday night, the San Mateo Police Department said in a news release.

The woman led police to a lagoon near Port Royal Ave and Rocky Harbor Lane in Foster City, where they safely pulled her from the water.

Police initially encountered the woman on Kimberly Way and La Selva Street in San Mateo. The woman’s husband told police that she had recently given birth and was experiencing symptoms of postpartum depression.

Police tried to negotiate with the woman for nearly an hour before she submerged herself under water.

The woman was transported to a mental health facility for treatment.
